Two festive five-flame candelabras on a round, centrally raised foot, segmented by four applied pilasters with volute ends protruding over the rim, ring-shaped and radial relief bands, fluted shaft with leaf and flower festoons widening conically upwards above a fillet, above a further constriction, divided into four curved, profiled, trumpet-shaped widening arms with lavish, sculptural acanthus leaf and flower overlay and bows, at the ends and in the centre five vase-shaped spouts with eaves bowls richly decorated with leaf decoration. Dimensions: height: 46,0 cm / 18.11 in diameter: 30,0 cm / 11.81 in silver weight: 3340 grams / 107.39 troy oz Hallmarks: – Mercury Head – ‘Mercure’, French export hallmark for 950 Silver from 1878 – Master’s sign TÉTARD FRÈRES – ‘TFres’ with Huguenot pot in diamond, 4, rue Béranger, Paris Founded in 1880 by Edmond Tétard (1860-1901), he initially specialized in Louis XV style crockery and pieces. His popularity grew when he won the gold medal at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris. After Edmond’s death in 1901, his sons George, Henri and Jacques took over the company and changed the name to Tétard Frères in 1903. – Model number 71321 Made around 1910 Condition: very well maintained – silver cleaned and polished
